Permanent Exhibition

상설전은 컬렉션 미술관인 구하우스의 소장품으로 이루어진 전시로, ‘집 같은 미술관’을 컨셉으로 미술과 디자인 작품들을 편안하게 감상할 수 있습니다. 세계적인 작가의 회화, 조각, 사진, 설치, 영상 등 다양한 장르의 컨템포러리 작품과 더불어 가구와 조명, 거울 등 디자인 작품들이 일상 생활 공간 같은 전시장에서 어우러져 펼쳐집니다.

비닐봉지로 만들어진 곰의 형태를 하고 있는 이 작품은 거리에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 쌓여 있는 쓰레기 봉지의 조합이 보행자에 의해 우연히 ‘곰과 같은 형태’로 보인 장면을 담고 있다. 작품의 형태와 내용이 보여주는 픽션과 아이러니는 살짝 엇나가는 유머를 자아낸다.

 이 작품은 작가가 2008년부터 진행하고 있는 <Subsidiary Construction>프로젝트에 속하는 작업이다. 부자재 (subsidiary materials)라 불리는 포장재나 스티로폼, 상품을 담은 종이상자, 비닐봉지 형태와 구조의 조합을 통해 입체 작품으로 확장된다. 주변적 사물을 예술 작품의 주된 재료로 다루어 재현하여 미술 작품의 독창성, 윤리적 충돌과 같은 문제들에 화두를 던진다.

The work is presented as a stack of trash bags that can be found in the backstreets of any city. It is only when one pays close attention that the figure of a bear reveals itself, a strange apparition in this urban milieu. The trash bags are not actually real, but hyper-realistic resin fabrication.

<Bearlike Construction> is a part of <Subsidiary Construction> that the artist introduced into his work

in 2008 which encapsulates the usage of by-products, such as garbage bags, cardboard boxes and packing materials that are discarded during or after the production and transportation of his work, transforming these insignificant byproducts into central components of new creations.

조각, 회화, 설치, 비디오, 퍼포먼스 등 거의 모든 형태의 미술을 넘나들며 다양한 작품활동을 펼쳐왔다. 우리에게 익숙한 현대미술의 형식들을 차용하여 만든 결과물에는 사회와 예술에서 작가가 발견하고 느끼는 부조리함에 대한 냉소와 비판이 함께 담겨있다.


Sculptor, painter and filmmaker, Gimhongsok graduated from Dusseldorf Kunst Akademie in Germany after earning his BA in Fine Arts at the Seoul National University.
