Takashi expresses the boundary that lies between Man and Nature through his work. For the artist, the opposition caused by borderlines can also be connected and relate to each other. The artist as an avid diver and marine sportsman, his experiences of communing with nature provide an important background for this work.
The image of a penguin, an amphibious animal, and the use of the wetsuit as material embody the artist’s theme of exploration between the boundaries. It is ironical and humorous that the penguin, adapted for both land and water, is wired to the ceiling thus completely immovable.
