In 1979, the artist left the overly commercialized art world, destroying or distributing their works among acquaintances. Persuaded by curator Kasper König, the artist returned to the art scene in 1989. Even after their return, they continued to produce unsigned works, challenging the convention of identifying the original creator.
The piece "David" is inspired by the marble sculpture "David" (1504) by Renaissance master Michelangelo (1475-1564). While replicating the form, the artist diverges from the smooth marble finish by applying colors reminiscent of cheap paint to reflect the actual human body. This work humorously challenges the classical standards of Western art and beauty, which idealize the human form.
